"Decade of Jewish culture” was held at the Educational Centre “School of Health” № 1858 in Moscow with the support of the Jewish National Fund of Russia. Some events devoted to the Jewish history, culture and tradition were held on those days.
Within the bounds of Decade a Café «Tzimmes» was open. On weekdays, this is a common school canteen, but on Shabbath it’s transformed. A dazzling white starched tablecloths, Shabbath candles and challah appear.
Guests and frequenters of cafes were offered on menu: salad, pumpkin cream-soup and tzimmes (a traditional Ashkenazi Jewish dish). Schoolchildren have cooked the dishes, under the supervision of an experienced canteen manager Olga Mogarovskaya. It is she, a hospitable lady who did the honours of the cafe. Schoolchildren amused guests by Jewish songs and dances which they had learnt by “decade of Jewish culture”.
Many guests, including school teachers, students and their parents tasted food and determined the winners. Honorable guests, including Vladimir Streltsov, Director of school № 1858, Vladimir Shternfeld, Chairman of the Board of the JNF of Russia and Dr. Raphael Feinberg, Director of the JNF of Russia had got special VIP-clients cards.
