Opened in May 2011 in the Israeli Cultural Center in Moscow, an exhibition of works of Israeli photographers "We are with you, Carmel!" continues its journey across Russia. It has already been exhibited at several venues in Moscow, and then in the House of Photography in Veliky Novgorod, where it was opened by the General Consul of Israel in St. Petersburg, Edward Shapira, and among the first audience were the Vice-Governor of Novgorod region Arnold Shalmuev, heads of national organizations of the city, and journalists.
The other day the opening of the exhibition took place in another large regional center of Russia - in the city of Tver. The photos are arranged in the library of Herzen, where it will be able to be seen by the numerous readers of the library and the citizens, alerted about the event.
At the solemn opening ceremony of the exhibition it was said about the feeling of compassion felt by the inhabitants of the Tver region during the last year's December of fire, about the good feelings towards the distant Israel, about the invisible spiritual ties binding the inhabitants of the city of Tver and the Holy Land. The importance of the meetings at which you can learn more about the daily life, the affairs and concerns of people of different cultures, national traditions and religions was stressed.
The director of the foundation Dr Raphael Feinberg donated to the library compilation of the literature on Jewish themes. These are works on the history of the Jewish people and the State of Israel, the books of Joseph Flavia, Sholom Aleichem, Isaac Bashevis Singer and other Jewish writers. Representatives of the Library gratefully accepted the donated books, saying that it will be added to the existing funds and will certainly be in demand by readers.
Dr Feinberg said: "We planned, that after the demonstration in the Israeli Cultural Center, the exhibition will move to the Jewish communities and organizations. But it has gone beyond the scope of national communities and organizations. It is remarkable that it is attended not only by those, who are interested in photography, or a particular fire, but also all those, who are interested in the history, the people and the nature of the Holy Land. And there are a lot of such people. It is important that community leaders organize excursions for children, the various activities, it speaks of the great potential of the exhibition".
In conclusion of official part, Dr Raphael Feinberg handed commemorative certificates about the planting of trees on mount Carmel to the residents of the city of Tver and the representatives of the organizations, who have raised money for overcoming the consequences of the fire. Then, a few dozen people attending the opening ceremony, visited the exhibition with pleasure, many of them have left their record in the guest Book.
According to the Chairman of the Board of the Renaissance of Traditions Fund "The Jewish National Fund" Vladimir Sternfeld, one of the central tasks of the foundation is the development of good-hearted relationship between the Russian and Jewish people, the dissemination of objective information about the land and people of Israel. This is the task that the fund solves by holding the exhibition, dedicated to the catastrophic fire in Israel, in different cities of Russia and organizing the fund-raising to remediate the damage.
