On July 3, 2012 in Moscow, in the Photo Centre at Gogolevsky Boulevard 8, an exhibition of photography «Jews in Russia: revival of traditions» was opened with a large gathering present at it.  The exhibition has resulted from the contest conducted by Renaissance of Traditions Fund «Jewish National Fund» with the assistance of the Union of Photoartists of Russia.

Displayed at the vernisage were 88 photographs by 32 authors representing different cities spanning the territory from Moscow and St.Petersburg, to Birobijan and Derbent, Smolensk and Ufa in Russia, as well as Haifa, Kfar Saba and others in Israel. Both seasoned experts, participants of Russian and international contests, and beginning photographers were among the contestants.

Photos relate life histories of people, Jewish communities and organizations, national education, philanthropy and culture with great precision and truth. Each photograph is interesting in its own way and reflects the development of Jewish life in Russia in the recent years.

Participants of the opening ceremony were welcomed by Dorit Golender, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the state of Israel in Russia, and Evgeniy Gerasimov, Chairman of Moscow City Council Committee for Culture and National Artist of Russia. Among other speakers were Rafael Feinberg, Director of Jewish National Fund in Russia; Roman Spektor, the Head of the Department of Euro-Asian Jewish Congress;  Valeriy Nikiforov, Director of Moscow Photo Centre; Alexander Gelman, Jury Chairman of the contest; Adolf Shayevich, Chief Rabbi of Russia;  photoartists, Yuriy Krivonosov and Alexander Tyagny-Ryadno.

The exhibition showcases  the revival of Jewish life in Russia, its diversity, dynamics. A great number of photos portray children and youth. This means that Jewish community of Russia has a future, as believes Vladimir Sternfeld, Chairman of the Board of the Fund.
